When it comes time to manufacture your product, there are tons of raw materials to choose from. Some materials are cheaper to purchase, while others are more durable. However, there are some materials that you shouldn’t use in your manufacturing process. Here are three raw materials you should avoid using in your products.

Raw materials you should avoid using in your product

  1. PVC. First, you should avoid using PVC. PVC is terrible for the environment and individual health. PVC can leach out all sorts of harmful chemicals that can cause health problems and even cancer in the long run. Known as vinyl, this material is and so many of our products, but you shouldn’t use it in yours.
  2. Nylon. Next, nylon is another material you should avoid. It is made from a nonrenewable resource and it has an energy-intensive process. Nylon sheds microplastic fibers every time it is washed and because it is not biodegradable, it will eventually end up spending its life in a landfill.
  3. Steel. Finally, you should think twice about using steel in your product. The steel industry is responsible for 8% of the carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere, which translates to 1.8 million tons. While this industry has been trying to do better with its carbon production, it is still a material you should be wary of.

Selecting the right materials can be a difficult task because you want to pick something sturdy enough to create a quality product while also being good for the environment. You cannot reduce all harm, but it is still important to be conscious of the materials that you choose.
